We are thrilled and humbled that Total Chaos Fabrication, makers of some of the best Toyota suspension components, is supporting DirtRoadTrip! There are some exciting suspension upgrades coming to the 4Runner in the next several weeks and we can’t hardly wait to get out on the trail with our new Total Chaos goodies.

For just about as long as I’ve owned the 4Runner, and long before DirtRoadTrip came to be, I’ve been familiar with Total Chaos. Both Alex and I have been running TC components for some time – Alex uses Total Chaos upper control arms on the Land Cruiser, and when I decided to get more serious about my front suspension setup a year ago, I chose to use Total Chaos weld-on gussets to reinforce key areas in the 4Runner’s front suspension (spindles, cam tabs, shock towers).

About two years ago, I met the folks from TC at the FJ Summit, and one of the things that was most impressed on me was their enthusiasm for BOTH offroad racing and for the average weekend warrior (like me), even though big-time teams in Baja and Dakar use their suspension systems. Like us, Total Chaos is all about getting out and exploring, in whatever flavor suits you – including going really fast and catching air, if that’s your thing!

So, what TC goodies are going on the 4Runner? The 2010 4Runner will be getting Total Chaos Race Series Lower Front Control Arms, Upper Front Control Arms, and Front Secondary Shock Hoops. This is the same setup used by race teams in the Dakar, and features uni-balls in both the upper and lower control arms in place of ball joints for strength and precise steering as well as greasable, replaceable poly bushings. I could talk about this setup all day, and very well might if you give me the chance…

There will be more to come in the following weeks – in the meantime, check out what Total Chaos has to offer, and scoot over to their website to check out some of their awesome in-house builds and their homegrown Tacoma race truck!
