For the past few months I’ve been utilizing the Adventure Trailers JK Storage System in the back of our 2014 JKU Rubicon, and after multiple trips with the setup into the field, I wonder how I ever got along without it.
The AT JK Storage System consists of a storage drawer and a combo slide designed for both your fridge and a custom stove. The entire system fits into the rear of any 4 door JK, and anyone outside of the loop would probably mistake it as a factory option. Both pieces of the system can be installed individually, but I went with both based on my needs.
The drawer is made of Fiberthane Composite and covered in spray on bed liner, it’s not as gritty as LINE-X but it’s a durable coating that is easy on your hands. The lid is contoured to follow the wheel wheel of the JK, and also consists of a hatch which allows you to access not only the drawer, but also the storage compartment underneath. All of the hardware is marine grade which you’ll appreciate when you notice your drawer doesn’t rattle when off-road.
The drawer has plenty of space and gives me enough room to store a recovery bag (consisting of a tree strap, kinetic recovery strap, and shackles), jumper cables, on-board air hose/air chuck, tire repair kit, AEV’s jack base, and a snatch block. There’s still plenty of room in there for me to add more gear, but I prefer to keep a little extra space rather than pack it to the brim.
AT’s combo slide is where the whole system really shines, it combines a strong fridge slide with a custom Partner Steel Stove. For the fridge I mounted my National Luna Weekender 50 utilizing a modified National Luna Base Plate (you’ll have to drill a few extra holes to get it to line up right). There is also a cutout in the base that allows you to access the rear storage compartment.
You can tell that the guys at AT put a lot of thought into the design of the combo slide as the system easily supports a fridge filled with 50 cans of beer without the slightest bit of flex. The stove is also designed to stick out past the rear glass when fully deployed so you don’t have to worry about residue building up. All of this is pretty important when you have to drill permanent holes into your body to mount everything, and I’m pretty confident this slide will outlive the Jeep.
The custom Partner Steel Stove fits perfectly under the fridge slide and they’ve relocated the controls so you can use the stove from either side of the slide. The unit is also removable so you can use it outside of the rig but you’ll need to bring some tools along to undo the bolts that keep it secure.
In regards to fitment, the storage system definitely utilizes all off the available space in the rear cargo area while still allowing you full use of the rear seats. The National Luna Fridge is taller than comparable models so it does slightly touch the rear of the back seat but it doesn’t put any stress on the slide and does not effect functionality. I found this to be a benefit though because there is a tiny amount of play in the slide design and the extra pressure gets rid of it.
Overall I’ve been very happy with the investment. The setup is relatively lightweight, doesn’t rattle, and allows me to secure all of my gear and fridge in a neat and organized way. If you’re wondering how it holds up off road, all I can tell you is that it’ll stay bolted down and quiet even when you’re doing 60 MPH in the dirt, the beer in your fridge, not so much.
