Whether you utilize a power tank or an air compressor, on board air is a useful tool to have on any serious overland rig.
For almost anyone that spends time off road, some form of on board air is easily one of the most cost effective mods you can do to your vehicle. Just having the ability to air up your tires after a day on the trails saves you from trips to the gas station and having to fumble around for quarters you dropped in-between the seats.
For the JK we decided to install the ARB Heavy Duty Air Compressor (CKMA12). It’s the same unit that I had in the Land Cruiser and it performed flawlessly without every giving me any issues. It can easily air up 4 tires in under 5 minutes and also supports air-lockers if you don’t have e-lockers in your rig.
In order to mount the compressor, we ordered the Synergy Manufacturing JK Compressor Mount which has pre-drilled holes for both ARB and Viair compressors. Installation is very straight forward and it only requires you to undo a few bolts and relocate a few hoses. Total installation time is easily under 1 hour.
So if you have the space under the hood or in the back of your truck, an on board air setup makes a great Christmas present to yourself (your buddies will also appreciate not having to air your ass up).
