AEV JK Rear Corner Guards

August 29, 2014 by Alex 7 Comments

From bumpers to skid plates, we’re always happy to throw as much armor on our trucks as they can carry. So adding a little more cheap insurance to the JK was an easy decision to make based on my track record.

Rear corner guards stir up a lot of debate on the forums and many JK owners find them to be unnecessary pieces of Jeep bling. To be honest, I’m no expert, but if you put your rear corner into a tree/rock it’ll probably protect you from a glancing blow. If you’re expecting it to hold up like a steel bumper though, just remember that they’re bolted to the body and I have some ocean front property in Arizona you might be interested in.

As the title states, I ended up going with the AEV JK Rear Corner Guards. Why AEV and not Bushwacker, Smittybilt or any of the other million Jeep accessory makers? Because if I’m going to buy something that requires me to drill permanent holes into my body, I’m going to go with the company that was selected by Jeep to provide OEM parts. So I sent the truck off to our buddies at Main Line Overland to handle the install because I don’t like drilling holes into brand new trucks.

I’m not going to provide detailed instructions in regards to the installation of these corner guards because AEV has already done a far superior job. All I’m going to tell you is measure 10 times, and drill once, otherwise you’ll end being “that guy” on the forum that can’t figure out why his taillights won’t go back in.

The finished product should look like they were installed at the factory. As you can see in the photos, my other reason for installing these corner guards was because of the Gobi rack that was also installed on the truck. The Gobi makes contact with the body in the rear quarter in a few locations, and installing the corner guards is an easy way to protect your body from damage that the rack can potentially cause.

The corner guards turned out great, and I really like how they contrast with the vinyl wrap. Whether they hold up on the trails is another questions, but I’m sure that I’ll be finding out pretty soon.

Just gave you a thumbs up on 193. Jeep is looking great. The corner guards look good and I’m really digging the matte vinyl wrap.

The 4Runner looks good, time to start throwing on some mods. If you’re ever in Northern Virginia hit us up for a beer.

Just withdraw from your 401K and don’t tell the wife, I like to think of mine as my truck slush fund.

Sweet! Can you take a side shot? I’m curious to see the front edge where the guards transition back to the Jeep body…

Zach, sorry for the delay, we’ve been gone all weekend. I’ll post up some photos of the transition for you this week.
