Aftermarket parts availability for the 200 Series Land Cruiser in the US is pretty slim, when it comes to rear bumpers your only two options currently are either Kaymar or ARB. While both bumpers are exceptional products, I ended up selecting the Kaymar due to it featuring a superior tire swing out design and pre-cut holes for the rear parking sensors. One thing to note is that the Kaymar utilizes a two piece modular construction with each side of the bumper attaching to the frame individually.
The Install:
Installing the bumper is relatively straight forward. You’ll have to remove the existing rear bumper, parking senors, and trim plate directly below the rear tailgate. After you remove the rear bumper you’ll have to lay out the template provided by Kaymar and measure out and mark the bumper accordingly. Make sure to take your time during this step as you’ll be reusing the upper portion of the bumper. As always measure 5 times and cut once.
Once you’ve made your required cuts, you’ll need to reattach the upper portion of the rear bumper. After it is reattached to the body you’ll have to install the swing out tire carrier. The tire carrier attaches directly to a cutout in the frame, once inserted make sure it is level and tighten it down. One nice thing about the Kaymar tire carrier is that it can be used with the factory bumper for those only interested in relocating their spare.
Next you’ll get to the wiring, I don’t have any photos of this portion but all I can tell you is ARGHHHH, the wiring harness that is supposed to be plug and play for the 200 series is anything but. The connectors do not match the factory plugs and you’ll have to just splice the wires for the bumper lights from your tail lights or your trailer wiring harness. For some reason we were unable to get the brake lights to work via the trailer harness so we just tapped into the rear taillights instead. Save your money and don’t order the “plug and play” wiring harness for the 200 series, it’s an extra $300 dollars and it’s a complete waste of money. There is also a rear camera relocation kit, this kit is not necessary if you purchase the passenger side tire carrier as the camera is offset to the drivers side and works fine with a tire in place.
To make things easier for you here is the information regarding the trailer wiring harness, this information is good for 2008 through 2013 Land Cruisers.
Yellow = Reverse
Green = Tail
White = Ground
Red = Left Indicator / Brake Stop
Brown = Right Indicator / Brake Stop
Once you have the wiring run it’s time to bolt up the two sections of the bumper, it is pretty straight forward but will require a little bit of muscle. Just get it lined up and tighten everything down. Once you’ve got the rear bumper on the only thing left to do is mark the bumper and drill a hole to attach a bracket for locking down the rear tire carrier.
The Kaymar comes with a rear license plate bracket, but the lug nuts are for steel wheels, I used it for a few months, but it didn’t work with my new TRD wheels so I ended up relocating the plate back to my tailgate.

Afterthoughts:
I’ve had the bumper for a little over a year now and I can proudly say that the bumper has performed flawlessly and the tire carrier has not missed a beat carrying my 34″ KM2. I’ve since come down on it hard numerous times during the VOT and while it did flex and bend in a few places (7,000 lbs of truck will do that) everything was repairable and I was left with no body damage. My only major complaint about the Kaymar is the powdercoat seems to be paper thin, but I’ve since resorted to rattle can since the bumper takes frequent hits while off pavement.
Anyone considering a rear bumper for their LC 200 really should get one, the rear departure angle leaves a lot to be desired and the bumper will pay for itself after your first trip off pavement. If you do decide to pickup a Kaymar, give Ben at Outback Proven a call and be prepared to wait as these units are special order only and take about 3 months to get via contrainer from Australia.

Thanks.

I purchased mine through Outback Proven but they’re no longer in business. You can order them directly from Australia though. I don’t believe there are any dealers left in the US, cost to get one to your door will be about 4,000.
