Man, what a weekend! We’re just barely back from Mid-Atlantic Overland Festival and still digesting the whole experience. As “event staff” working with Main Line Overland, it was especially fun to see the vision for the event realized after months of planning, coordinating, and getting the word out.
Folks started rolling in before noon on Friday and by the end of the day there were nearly 60 overland vehicles camped on the property and a festive mood in the air. The crowd was diverse and came from all over — almost all of the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic states were represented, and there were even some folks from the mid-West, Canada, and yes, Iceland!
What about trucks and gear you say? Lots of fun stuff rolled in — everything from vintage Rovers, military-based trucks, and ural motorcycles to modern Jeeps and Toyotas. One of the most entertaining components of this type of event is exploring the camping areas and talking to people about their setups, varying from “less is more” to “literally brought the kitchen sink”.
Everyone stayed busy with a healthy schedule of classes, self-guided trail runs, and vendor browsing. The mid-July heat of the day subsided at night to very comfortable camping temperatures, perfect for Friday’s Film Festival and Saturday’s BBQ dinner and live music.
Alex and I had a blast meeting new folks and seeing many, many old friends who came out for the weekend. We can’t wait until next year, and we’re looking forward to continuing to be a part of the event and making it bigger and better!
