Our friends Adam and Cody invited us check out their property “No Man’s Land” in Mathias, WV where we spent the weekend clearing trail, camping, and consuming gratuitous amounts of adult beverages.
The property sits on a 16 acre plot by the Trout Pond Recreation Area in Lost City, WV. The property is completely undeveloped and there isn’t even half a bar of cell service, thus earning the name of No Man’s Land.
We hit the road early in the AM with plans of getting to the property with plenty of daylight to work with. When we arrived, we quickly got to work clearing dead and downed trees in order to build trails to get around the property.
The whole crew got to work with chainsaws, axes, and even a tomahawk. I’m pretty confident I’ve never seen a group of people have so much fun performing free manual labor, but the weather was beautiful and we were all just glad to be off the grid.
Our friend Richard even brought along his homemade smoker (every overlanding kit should contain one) and we packed a 10 lb piece of pork shoulder in the National Luna fridge. There are no photos of all the cooked awesomeness because I was passed out in a chair we were too busy consuming it.
Brian also broke out his famous dutch oven and made us some excellent beer bread (the recipe is coming soon) and everyone else pitched in with a smorgasbord of food from jalapeno hot dogs to venison burgers (there were no vegetables because murica).
We stayed up into the evening swapping stories and drinking plenty of apple pie to keep warm as the temperature dropped. The next morning we packed up the trucks and headed back to civilization but not before planning the next trip.
We’d like to give a big thank you to Adam, Cody, and Jana for having us out at their property for the weekend. We had an awesome time and we can’t wait to get out there with some snow on the ground. Also we’d like to thank everyone that came out to help cut trail, chop woods, and help drink out booze, we’ll see you all again soon!
