2015 has been off to a very good, but hectic start in the Jones household. After getting married back in November (!!!), Becca and I decided early in 2015 that life was a little too calm, and started the multi-month process of finding and buying a house. Something had to give over the past several months, and that was mostly the off-road exploring and camping adventures.
Outside of one trip to Uwharrie and a day of snow-wheeling in GWNF in 2015, the tires have only seen pavement and the OzTent has been tucked away in its storage duffel. But now that we’re all moved into our first home together, we’re ready to get out and find some dirt roads in the upcoming weekends (of course, only after my new Saturday morning ritual of gross mowing and weed whacking . . .).
We probably won’t get into anything overly adventurous at first – just a trip here and there into George Washington National Forest, and hopefully soon I want to re-trace trail from the snow-wheeling trip Jason, Mark, and myself took this past winter. While on that trip we stumbled across a few promising looking Ridgetop spots near Spyder Cove, so it’ll be nice to spend more time up there in kinder weather.
If the weather holds up, we’re looking forward to busting out the OzTent regalia, firing up the dutch oven, taking some pictures, having a beverage or 2, and enjoying the scenery and serenity of GWNF less than 2 hours from home. And naturally, I’ll have 1-2 new pieces of kit to test out.
So, who else is headed for the hills over the next few weekends? Any new places you’re hoping to check out?
