Wow! It’s March 2018, where the heck did the last 8 months go? You’re probably wondering where we’ve been since we haven’t posted anything since June of last year. Well it’s a long story but it can really be summed up in three words my Great Uncle Ho Lee Fuk liked to say “Life caught up”.
2017 was a humongous year for us and the site. We posted our 392nd article, saw traffic reach an all-time high, and went on some amazing trips. Yet those things don’t even make the highlight reel. As many of you already know the biggest event for the DRT family in 2017 was Ben and his wife Becca gave birth to their first child! So as you can imagine, Ben’s been slightly busy over the past few months. Data suggests a substantial amount of his time will probably be booked permanently for the next 18 years.
So what’s my damn excuse? I needed a break. Between being a first time homeowner, working on another degree, and taking on an expansive project at work, something just had to give. Pushing out content 2-3 days a week and finding free weekends to actually go on trips and test gear felt more like a burden than a hobby.
Thankfully for 2018 my schedule is starting to open up and quite frankly I just missed writing and sharing all of the great trips that are available to us in the Mid-Atlantic. Part of it is because it seems like every other article I see makes it sound like you need 37” tires, lockers, dual winches, and a full support crew just to drive down a graded fire road. Anyone who reads this site knows that just isn’t’ true, and someone needs to keep it real.
Be on the lookout over the next few weeks as I start pushing through my backlog of content. I’ll also be reviving the DRT Campout Series, and I’m looking forward to meeting new faces and seeing plenty of old ones (literally old faces, you guys know who you are). 2018 is going to be a great year, see you all out on the trails, unless you’re a Rover owner because I’ll see you broken down on the shoulder!
