Believe it or not, Christmas is only 4 weeks out! We’ve pulled together a list of things we’d love to see under the tree and think there’s something on this list that’s bound to make the average overlander more excited than Alex happening across a maple creemie stand.
- Ex Officio Underwear – Of course these are on the list! Always a safe bet – comfortable, anti-microbial, and currently on sale at exofficio.com. While possible, we do recommend wearing pants over them before operating chainsaws. From about $20.
- Nemo Helio Shower – Don’t be that guy smelling like a hobo halfway through a long weekend in the woods. The Nemo Helio shower packs down small and works extremely well – I used one at the DRT campout this summer after getting super gross clearing brush in the campsite with good results. $75 on amazon.com.
- Tembo Tusk Scottle – We don’t own one of these “South African cooking contraptions” yet, but see them more and more at Overland events – definitely a versatile setup for cooking breakfast, stir fry, steak etc. Our friends over at Mountain State Overland (who are also great camp chefs!) rave about theirs. $125 at tembotusk.com.
- Petzl Tikka RXP Headlamp – One of the annoying things about most headlamps is they run on AAA batteries that you have to swap out. The Petal Tikka RXP comes with a re-chargeable lithium-ion battery that is rechargeable via USB. The lamp itself is a light cannon with up to 215 lumens of output and also has a light sensor to optimize light output based on your desired battery lifespan. Impress your buddies around the campfire. $100 on amazon.com.
- Honda Grom – If someone’s been a very good boy this year – maybe its time for them to get their Grom on. The Grom is a pint-sized 125cc bucket of fun that can run on knobby tires and tag along easily on a hitch-mounted carrier. On average, probably harder to maim yourself on one of these than a dual sport bike. $3,200 at your local Honda Powersports dealer.
- Patagonia Fjord Flannel Shirt – Seriously the softest, most comfy flannel shirts I’ve tried. Liked my first one so much I had to get a second. Looks great with de-facto Overland Khaki outfits – if that’s your thing. $89 at patagonia.com.
- Platypus Wine Preservation System + GSI Nesting Wine Glasses – No need to drink your wine out of a mug like a barbarian. Protect that precious cargo in the soft-sided Platypus reservoir preservation system and enjoy it in GSI’s stylish-yet-shatterproof glasses that can withstand even even a most reckless night of Vermont Overland Trophy revelry. $8-10 each at rei.com.
- Overlander’s Handbook – This is a dual-purpose gift. If an overlander actually reads it, they may learn something, but no matter what, they’ll enjoy the instant cred it provides resting on their coffee table at home (bonus points if the coffee table is a genuine campaign furniture piece brought home from some adventure). $30 on amazon.com.
- Blue Ridge Overland Gear Bag – Alex loves his tool bag from BROG, and they offer a broad spectrum of storage solutions made right here in the U.S. Anything from first aid bags, messenger bags, to tool kits and map pouches. Don’t see exactly what you need on the site? BROG does custom work as well! Prices vary – blueridgeoverlandgear.com.
- DirtRoadTrip Shirts – If that special overlander in your life happens to check out DirtRoadTrip every so often, one of our stunning DRT t-shirts makes the perfect gift. Stylish and appropriate in nearly every occasion! $17 – available right here!
