How many pieces of your kit can perform as a stool, footrest, and table, while also having a place for you to put a beer? Probably zero.
The OzTent Sidekick is the Swiss army knife of camping stools, and the best part is it’s lightweight and compact (the opposite of most “overland” equipment). It utilizes a steel frame (rated to support up to 250 lbs) and is covered by the same heavy duty polyester material that you can find on their line of camp chairs.
Packed weight is right at 5 pounds, and it folds down to 28″ x 12″ x 4″ which is small enough to fit even into the most compact and over packed rigs. It also includes a tie down strap to keep it secure while closed, and a handle makes it comfortable to carry or swing if you have to fight off a Kangaroo.
So does it really do everything they say it does? Absolutely, and because we care about our readers so much we spent countless hours of seat time in these just to make sure.
As a stool, it’s very comfortable, it’s almost like sitting in a sling or as one of our contributors said “it’s like a hammock for my ass.”
How does it perform as a footrest? It’s like having a portable ottoman that you can break out around the camp fire, and did we mention that it’ll hold a beer?
It also works great as a table when you use the hard side-flap and is the perfect place to put your beer eat your meal, keep some gear off the ground, or it also works as a table to write your post in the field (aka your backyard).
What about against Kangaroos? We have no idea, but if you’re willing to test it for us we’ll send you one of ours FedEx overnight (a video will be required).
Overall the Sidekick is another solid product from OzTent that has earned a permanent place in my camping setup, and at $39.99 it’s also a great value for such a versatile piece of kit.
