Anyone who’s spent time with us in the field knows that we love our OzTent’s, because not only do they make durable high quality gear, but the people behind OzTent are outdoor enthusiasts just like us and spend just as much time sleeping in tents as we do.
Recently OzTent USA gave us the opportunity to test out their new OzTent Extreme Lighting System (ELS). The model we received was their rigid LED light bar which comes in at just under 40″ (100cm for you metric types) and is powered by a standard 12v plug.
The ELS is designed to be a portable and modular lighting system that you can use almost anywhere. It includes velcro straps so it can be attached to your OzTent awning and tent poles, but it really can be used essentially anywhere you need additional light.
So how bright is it? It’s composed on 60 LED’s that put out 3000 lumens; to put it simply, it’s bright enough to light up your entire camp. Conveniently it also includes a dimmer switch so you can set the mood for that special someone while out on the trail.
Another cool feature is that the system is 100% expandable/scalable for any use. The connectors on the end of the ELS allow you to plug multiple light bars together to light up your campsite brighter than an NFL stadium or signal the International Space Station. OzTent also made the connectors easy to use and waterproof, so you don’t have to worry about them shorting out on a rainy evening, or when you spill an entire beer on it.
Currently I’m planning on setting up a mount for it in the back of the JK to provide interior lighting when parked and I’m probably going to permanently mount one inside my RV-4 (it’s slim enough that it’ll probably fit with little issue). Keep and eye out for the long term review in a few months, but if you have to have one now, give the guys at OzTent USA a call, it’s not on their website but they do have them in stock.
