I recently found myself in the market for a new folding camp chair because the Walmart special I’d been using just wasn’t getting the job done.
Now you might ask “wouldn’t a Coleman camp chair for 15 bucks at Walmart do just fine?” My response would be to promptly challenge you to a duel where your camping chair is your only weapon agree with you, but also let you know that I’m an ARB fan boy so I’m still going to buy their new Air Locker chair.
Let’s start off with the un-boxing which was pretty uneventful even though FedEx tried their best to test the durability of the chair while in transit. Fortunately the chair arrived in excellent condition and the contents of the box were undamaged (hopefully this means it will survive a hard life in the back of the FJ).
The Air Locker chair comes neatly packed inside a standard camping chair bag (with an ARB logo of course) with a comfortable shoulder strap and drawstring closure.
After finally getting over the excitement of unpacking the chair, it was time to set it up and get in some initial seat time. The first thing you’ll notice is that this thing is solid, it utilizes a locking pin to secure either an open or closed position, and features sturdy aluminum legs/armrests.
The seat is made of a durable nylon material and has side pockets with a cup holder (because Murica) and a magazine slot (the kind you read). It also features an awesome quote on the back stating “get your A game on;” perfect for NASCAR season.
I haven’t tested the chair in the field yet but it appears that it’ll hold up to all the abuse I can throw at it. I’ll be putting it to good use in a few weeks on a 4 day road trip, but based on my initial impressions I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this chair to prospective buyers.
